Congratulations to our PSL swimmers who represented Prattville with great swims in Huntsville Swim Meet. The team swam great and every swimmer gave 100% percent. An especially congraluations go to our 8 & Under Girls: Taite, Bailey, and Megan!!!!

The Prattville Swim League (PSL) competed in 2008 Southeastern Swimming Central District 8 & Under Championships held in Huntsville on 15-16 February. Teams from 15 communities from across Alabama traveled to Huntsville’s Brahan Spring Natatorium. PSL’s 8 & Under girl’s contingent was made up of three of Prattville’s finest young swimmers: Taite Langley (8yrs), Bailey Skipper (8yrs), and Megan Andrews (7yrs). Taite led the team finishing with an overall 2nd in the 8 & Under age group. Taite’s performance was exceptionally strong, swimming personal bests in five of her seven events. She finished 1st in the 25yd Breaststroke (Br), 2nd in both the 25yd and 50yd Freestyle (Fr), 3rd in 50yd Br and and 4th in the 100yd Individual Medley (IM). Bailey Skipper contributed to the strong PSL showing swimming personal bests in five of her eight events. Bailey finished 4th in the 25yd Br; 5th in the 50yd Fr, 6th in the 50yd Br, 7th in the 25 Butterfly (Fl) and 100 IM; and 8th in the 25yd Backstroke (Bk), and 9th in the 25yd and 100yd Fr. Rounding out the team was Megan, the youngest PSL swimmer, competing in her first meet since learning the competitive strokes. Her performance was strong in all her events especially the 25yd and 50yd Bk finishing with a 26.62 and 59.17 respectively.

The meet also offered an opportunity for the older Prattville swimmers to compete against swimmers from throughout Alabama. Sarah-Dalton Chambliss led the team swimming personal bests in all eight events and finishing in the top 10 in all but one event. Mackenzie Brown shaved 9 seconds in the 200 Fr finishing 3rd;; dropped 4 seconds in the 100yd Fl; and improved 11 seconds in the 100yd Bk. Following up an outstanding meet in Auburn just two weeks earlier, Lauren Chambliss continued strong swimming with personal bests in the 50 Bk (45.37) and 50 Fl (46.90). Jacob Dennis turned in an equally strong performance for the 9-10 boys swimming personal bests in the 3 of 4 events. He dropped 2.34 seconds in the 50 Br, an astounding 10.5 seconds in the 50 Fl, and 7.5 seconds in the 100 Fr; finishing 7th, 5th, and 10th respectively.

The most noticeable difference this year was the increasing number of older boys swimming for PSL. Prattville was represented by Jeremie Schloss (17); Ian Dolan (15), Tyler Essary (15), James Schloss (15), Logan Smith (15), Luke Watkins (15), Colby Smith, (14), Logan Meyer (13), JT Glasscock (13), and Josh Sewell (13). Every one of PSL’s older boys swam personal bests in at least one of their individual events in Huntsville.

According to Head Coach Marcy Dolan, “In each of the past four years our performance has consistently improved with home grown talent coming up through the ranks. Our swimmers enjoy the sport and rise to the challenge of improving with each stroke. Every swimmer’s performance and more importantly their demonstrated sportsmanship makes every PSL coach prouder with every meet. As Prattville’s enthusiasm and support for swimming grows so does the PSL program.”
