CMSA "Vance Rose" Invitational  GPAC swimmers bring home second place trophy just behind home team CMSA without any of the Senior swimmers who were at the Florida State High School Championships in Orlando.  GPAC finished with 241 best time swims, 179 Top Eight finishes of which 69 were Top Three finishes, and 6 event winners.  Brian Jockers earned "High Point Swimmer" honors for 9-10 boys, while Alex Hernandez, David McCaskill,  Jacquie Kinman, Caroline Page, and Jack Tona, earned "High Point Runner-up" honors in their age groups.  more  /  results


GPAC sends 17 swimmers from 7 high schools to the "High School State Championships" in Orlando. 

 Over 2 days these 17 athletes competed in a combined 26 events.  The top 16 swimmers in each event advanced from the morning preliminary competition to swim in the evening finals. These swimmers have faced three weeks of intense competition to advance to the state championships and this year proved to be one of the deepest and fastest fields in history with several high school state records and a national high school record being broken. more  /  results

MYB BUCKMASTER CLASSIC  Twenty one of GPAC's finest make the trip to Montgomery, Al. for the Montgomery YMCA Buckmaster Classic.  After a total of 203 swims, GPAC swimmers finished in the Top 8 151 times and 84 of those finishes were Top 3.  There were 85 best time swims as well.   Four GPAC swimmers earned "High Point Swimmer" honors.  Caitlin Bridges 8 and under girls, Walker Parra 8 and under boys, Peyton Parra 9-10 girls, and Jacquie Kinman 11-12 girls.  "High Point Runner-ups" were Grace Sill 8 and under girls, and Olivia Weekley 11-12 girls. more / results

Dothan Peanut Classic  GPAC swimmers have good showing at the Dothan Peanut Classic with 102 best times, 71 top eight finishes of which more than half, 36, were top three finishes.  Logan Gurtowsky and Alex Hernandez finished with "High Point Swimmer" honors in their age groups.  Logan finished with 6 1st place and 4 2nd place finishes.  Alex finished with 4 1st place, 4 2nd place, and 2 3rd place finishes. more   


Panama City Paradise Invitational The air was crisp, the pool was fast, and GPAC's finest brought home the first place trophy.  54 GPAC swimmers made the trip to Panama City's Roger Brown Sports Complex for the three day invitational.  The team accumulated over 242 best time finishes and 31 of the swimmers finished in the "Top 8", while 8 finished as event winners. Jacquie Kinman broke an 18 year old GPAC team record in the 11-12 girls 100 breastroke.  Jacquie broke Nikki Farmers record set back in December of 1990 with a time of 1:12.42.  Brian Jockers-9, Jacquie Kinman-12, Caroline Page-13, and Jack Tona-13 took "High Point Swimmer" honors for their age groups. more / results


Santa Rosa Island Triathlon GPAC swimmers couldn't have asked for better conditions for their first triathlon.  The calm gulf, the perfect temperature, and hardly a breeze, led to great performances by the tri newbie's.  The race started at 7:35am with all the Elite athletes and our 15 and under GPAC'ers swimming a 600+ yard course in the gulf.  After the open water swim, they ran up the beach to the bike racks in the parking lot.  Once on their bikes they rode an 18 mile course with over 600 other triathletes.  Coming in from the bike leg, they now faced a 3 mile run through the Pensacola Beach neighborhoods.  Everyone finished strong and a good time was had by all. more


GPAC FALL INVITATIONAL Out of 14 teams attending the 2008 GPAC Fall Invitational GPAC swimmers take first place honors with 1,888 points to second place City of Mobile Swim Association with 1,299 points, and third place Emerald Coast Swimming with 686 points.  Four of GPAC's finest led the way with "High Point Swimmer" honors.  Brian Jockers 9-10 boys, Jacquie Kinman 11-12 girls, Zoe MacFarland 13-14 girls, and Raymond Burch 13-14 boys.  Raymond also set a GPAC record in the 200 backstroke, was a part of a record breaking 200 medley relay, and lowered his own 200 freestyle record.  Results / Individual Rankings / More


PNY Harvest Classic  On a sunny Florida weekend GPAC swam to a second place finish behind ECS with 484 points.  Leading the way was "High Point" winner Brian Jockers, and "High Point" runner-ups Ashley Price, Baylen Maynard, and Alex Hernandez.  Top eight finishers were Jordyn Hill 3rd, Brady Jockers 6th, Monett Mendez 3rd, Sophia Diagne 5th, Anna Lundgren 7th, Brooke Ferrara 8th, Christopher Moore 4th, Nicholas Petruska 7th, Chloe Berens 7th, Catherine Petruska 8th, Ian Price 7th, Hannah Edwards 7th, and Joseph McFarland 6th.  Results


GPAC's BURCH & PAGE FINISH STRONG AT ZONES Raymond and Caroline did their part in helping Southeastern Swimming finish 4th at the 2008 Southern Zone All-star meet in Atlanta.  Raymond had 4 top 10 Finals swims in the 200 free-10th 2:03.02, 100 free-6th 55.40, 200 medley relay-6th, and 200 free relay-6th.  Caroline had 5 top 10 Finals swims in the 50 back-3rd 32.53, 50 fly-5th 30.45, 100 back-5th 1:11.43, 200 medley relay-4th, and 200 free relay-4th.  Congratulations to Raymond and Caroline for being a part of the 2008 Zone Team and representing GPAC with pride!

BURCH AND PAGE ON TO ZONES FROM SOUTHEASTERNS

Raymond Burch and Caroline Page led GPAC to a 7th place finish with 720 points at the 2008 Southeastern Championship Meet July 17-20th.  Both Raymond and Caroline were selected for the 2008 All Star Zone Team.  They will represent the Southeastern LSC at Georgia Tech in Atlanta on July 30 thru August 2nd.  They are part of a 48 swimmer team consisting of only the best from Tennessee, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle.  Raymond earned his spot on the team with one 1st place, two 2nd place, two 3rd place, and one 4th place finish.  Raymond also lowered his 100 freestyle GPAC 13-14 boys team record to 55.60 seconds.   Caroline got her invite with four 1st place, and three 2nd place finishes.  Caroline also earned the 2008 11-12 girls Southeastern "High Point" honors which included three "Top 16" swims in the 50 back, 100 back, and 50 butterfly.  She also set a new GPAC 11-12 girls team record in the 50 butterfly with a time of 30.35 seconds.  results / more


GPAC Attacks Shark Open at Sarasota GPAC swimmers took a big bite out of the "Sarasota Shark Open" June 19-22nd on their annual summer bus trip.  Some of the many great swims included five new team records.  Raymond Burch swam the 100 freestyle in 56.57 seconds to break a 8 year old record held by Daniel Penniman.  Daniel just finished his fourth year of college swimming  with the University of Florida, and is competing in the 2008 Olympic Trials.  Jacquie Kinman swam the 100 breastroke in 1:24.87 seconds to break a 13 year old record held by Christine Galbavy who swam in the 2004 Olympic Trials.  And Jack Tona swam the 200 freestyle in 2:12.80 seconds to break a 1 year old record held by Raymond Burch.  Jack also lowered his own team records in the 400 freestyle to 4:41.36 and the 200 IM to 2:30.25 seconds. more / results


GPAC Swims to Second Place Finish at Tom Lalor On a weekend full of thunder storms, GPAC swimmers finished second to Area Tallahasse Aquatic Club.   With 78 GPAC competitors on hand there were 341 best times, 127 top 8 finishes, 59 top three finishes, 2 team records, two "High Point Swimmer" awards, and 1 team record lowered.  Jack Tona set two new team records previously set by Raymond Burch in the summer of 2007.  Jack set the 400 freestyle record in a time of 4:42.95, and the 100 freestyle record in 1:01.44.  Jack also lowered his own 200 IM record with a time of 2:30.46.  Jack and Caroline Page earned "High Point Swimmer" honors in the 11-12 age groups. moreresults


CLUB DISTANCE MEET GPAC swimmers easily took 1rst place honors out of nine teams represented at the Club Distance Meet in Gulf Breeze May 17-18th.  With 26 event wins out of 46 events, and 69 top three finishes, GPAC swimmers showed they were more than ready for the stiff competition on a sunny Florida weekend.  results


GPAC DOMINATES "PENSACOLA AQUATHON" SUNDAY MAY 25TH  GPAC was represented by eight swimmers at the aquathon.  The aquathon race consisted of a 3.1 mile run followed by a 3.1 mile bay swim.  Standout's were Ethan Stone winning the "Overall Male" title in a time of 1:45.42, Haley Nicholson winning the "Overall Female" swim only title in a time of 1:14.41, and Brian Sanborn taking second place in the swim only event in a time of 1:08.05.  Other GPAC swimmers participating in the swim only were Brittney Clark-7th, Luke Vest-22nd, Hayley Dubose-19th, Mel Young-27th, and Dylan Roy-26th.  WAY TO GO GPAC!


GPAC Finishes second with 773 points at CMSA Invitational With 86 entered athletes at the CMSA Invitational Meet at UWF, GPAC swimmers finished with a grand total of 324 best time swims.  Among the many best time swims, one swim earned a new GPAC Team Record for the boys 11-12 long course 200 IM.  Jack Tona broke a 15 year old record time of 2:32.12 set by Nam Nguyen in July of 1993.  Jack broke the record with a time of 2:31.88. more / results


GPAC puts the squeeze on the Auburn Orange and Blue Classic     GPAC swimmers squeezed the orange out of the Orange and Blue Classic and were led by six event winners.  Alex Hernandez- 1, Brian Jockers- 1, Garret Neel- 7, Haley Nicholson- 1, Caroline Page- 8, and Jack Tona- 6 all finished with first place titles for a total of 24.  GPAC swimmers tallied up a grand total of 109 "Top Eight Finishes".  Caroline, Jack, and Garret all finished with their age group "High Point Swimmer" honors.  more


GPAC TAKES 19TH AT CHARLOTTE GPAC swimmers, Alex Hernandez, Caroline Page, Jack Tona, Logan Gurtowsky, Raymond Burch, Ryan Funk, and Ethan Stone swam to finish in 19th place out of over 80 Eastern Sectional Teams at the 2008 Eastern Sectional Championship Meet at Mecklenburg Aquatic Center in Charlotte, NC March 13-16th. GPAC MAKES A SPLASH AT SES CHAMPIONSHIPS        32 Swimmers competed for GPAC over 4 days at the Southeastern Swimming Championships held in Nashville, Tennessee.  GPAC finished in 8th place out of 40 teams. GPAC scored 684.5 points which is more points per competitor than 3 teams who finished higher in total score.  more 


GPAC TAKES FOURTH AT SOUTHEASTERN SOUTHERN DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS             Led by Anna Lundgren, who earned "High Point Runner-up Honors" and a Southeastern Champion Title in the 50 Breaststroke, GPAC 8 and unders age group took fourth place overall and finished with 25 "Top Eight Finishes".  Districts is also a last chance qualifying meet for GPAC swimmers to get their 2008 Short Course Southeastern Championship Meet qualifying times.  Five new GPAC swimmers (Morgan Pearson, Kelly Donahue, Olivia Weekley, Monet Mendez, and David McCaskill) made their first 2008 Southeastern qualifying times.  Six other GPAC swimmers (Laurel Rush, Matthew Young, Cody Keenan, Luke Vest, Jacquie Kinman, and Brittney Foster) expanded on the events they can swim at Southeasterns in Nashville. more


GPAC Swimmers Receive National Recognition

 

 Raymond Burch made the 2007 Short Course Yards USA Swimming Top 16 List.  The list is published in Splash Magazine and Ranks swimmers by age group, gender and individual event performances.  Raymond’s time of 1:53.55 in the 200 yard Freestyle finished the year ranked 13th in the country.  Congratulations Raymond on the awesome achievement and keep up the good work.   

Zoe Macfarlane has been selected to attend the 2008 Southern Zone Select Camp held on the campus of the University of North Carolina in May of this year.  Zoe was 1 of 28 girls chose from the Southern Zone which encompasses swimmers from Texas, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina and West Virginia. more!


Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club Hot During Winter Invitational

 While GPAC did not lead either the boys (Crawfish Aquatics - LA) or the girls (Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club) scoring their combined score was more than enough to win their own invitational.  GPAC won by 208.5 points over their nearest competitor City of Mobile Swim Association (CMSA).  Another local swim team, The Club, finished in 8th place.  MORE


GPAC Makes Big Waves at BSL Holiday Splash  The Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club competed at the Birmingham Swim League's Holiday Splash over the weekend of December 15th.  GPAC sent 47 area swimmers to the meet which concluded their competition schedule for 2007.  Of the 47 swimmers, 37 were among the top eight finishers in their events, while 16 finished first in at least one event MORE


GPAC TAKES A BITE OUT OF GATOR CLASSIC Swimmers for the Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club (GPAC) competed during the first weekend in December 2007 in the Gator Holiday Classic in Gainesville Florida.  The Gator Holiday Classic is held every year and is a qualifying meet.  A qualifying meet requires that each swimmer achieve a specific time to be allowed to compete.  During the 3 day event over 1100 swimmers competed from various swim teams.  MORE
